Hey loves!
Since this is the month for mental health awareness; I wanted to write a post regarding mental health. I am no therapist or a professional, but feel that we as a society should bring more awareness to mental health issues.
We need to disregard the stigma and give people who suffer with mental illnesses the compassion and help they deserve. Whether it be you or someone you may know who suffers from anxiety to mental disorder; everyone of us shouldn’t be afraid to talk about it and we NEED to learn to accept these issues and find ways to help those who do suffer.
Understand that having a mental disorder isn’t something a person can just get over with. It is not a failure (you’re NOT a failure!) and it isn't something we should set aside. We need to learn to listen because a lot of times people don’t understand why they feel the way they do. I say all this because I personally have family who suffer daily with depression and they have had to adopt ways to cope with it. Sometimes just listening to them talk as you sit there in silence is the best medicine for them.
However, we all need to take note that we shouldn’t solely focus on our physical health but put more emphasis on our mental state. So what are some ways to help you or others cope? I’ve listed 10 things that have helped me and some that have helped my family deal:
1. Mindfulness - listen to what your mind is feeling and take a mental break.
2. Take a break from social media
3. Talk to someone
4. Do 30 minutes of exercise - yoga!
5. Meditate
6. Read positive and inspirational quotes - this helps me a lot when I’m personally feeling down.
7. Forgive yourself - you’re not a failure!
8. Breathe - a couple deep breathes always help.
9. Color
10. Take a nap
I hope these help you and know that as a friend of yours on social media - I am here for everyone of you to listen. Let’s spread more positive thinking!
